Stewart Student CenterVoith & Mactavish Architects | Drafting/Construction Administration | Completed Winter 2016
Episcopal High School sits on a beautiful campus in Alexandria, Virginia. VMA was contracted to oversee the adaptive reuse of the school's historic Stewart Gymnasium into a new student center. The design strives to reinvigorate the handsome building while remaining sensitive to its historic details and context. By reinforcing existing structure, we were able to break open the facade at points to bring in more natural light and allow for full accessibility to the building. Once completed, the new Stewart Student Center will house the school store, student cafe, mailroom, and multiple open lounges for recreation. All these spaces are tightly organized around a 3-story open atrium which serves as the focal point and main entry. Image copyright: Voith & Mactavish Architects |
